paws bullet What information do I need to get started?

Your web site will have to be built from the ground up, so it is a good idea to have a notion of what color scheme you're looking for.  Browse the web, check out sites that are similar to your business, get ideas of what you like.  If you plan on selling through your website then it is a good idea to have a product list with prices.  If you have any brochures about your company it is a good idea to include these.  If choosing a color theme is not your thing then leave it to me.  Just be thinking about what pictures you'd like to have posted on your website.  Possible ideas for web pages are as follows:

  • Company Bio and/or Info

  • Coming Events/News

  • Products/Services Offered, perhaps categorized?

  • A Meet the Staff/Crew page

  • Special Offers

  • Directions to your company/business

  • Order forms

  • Contact Info

  • FAQ

These of course are just ideas.  You may have other ones you'd like to see as well, but it gives you an idea of what to be thinking about and what information to be gathering so we can get started.  But once we've decided on these few details you can sit back and leave the rest to me.

paws bullet How big a website do I need?

Of course the size of your website is dependent upon you.  In general the size is determined by the number of pages needed to properly market your product or service.  Keep in mind it is better to keep the size of your pages smaller since it cuts down on load time and is less apt to frustrate your visitors.  Together we will decide what is best for you.

paws bullet How long will it take to build my web page?

This obviously depends on the size of your web page and how much extra detail you want on it.  WE completed one of our web sites in a week while the most intense one took us months to get just right for the customer.  A lot of this depends on how much work you do ahead of time in gathering the info we'll need to create your personalized web page.  So a little prep work on your part will definitely speed things up after we've decided on the color scheme best suited for you.

paws bullet What if I don't like your first designs?

That is your prerogative and is all part of the designing process.  As it happens quite often the finished product doesn't always look like the initial idea we came up with.  But suffice to say we'll work together until the end result is what you're looking for.

paws bullet What is a domain name and how do I choose one?

A domain name is a series of letters and/or numbers that reflects the name of your company or organization.  A shorter one is sometimes best as it is easier to remember.  Sometimes it is difficult to find a name that is not taken and it may require you to have a longer name.  But a good rule of thumb is to choose a name that has your company's best interest in mind.

paws bullet What does it mean by web host and how do I go about choosing one?

A web host is a set of computers designed to house web sites and display them on the web.  Think of this as a rental space where you pay a monthly fee to store the necessary files that are needed to showcase your web page as you want it to be seen.  For the most part there are various servers out there to accomplish this for you.  When you have decided on a domain name you can contact any one of the available web hosts that are available out there and set up an account/space to publish your web site upon completion.  We can make recommendations for you but feel free to explore your options, ask friends or other businesses who they use.

paws bullet What forms of payment do you accept?

We can accept all major credit cards through PayPal as well as personal checks or money orders.  Personal checks take time to clear and will delay the start of your project until they clear.

paws bullet Will I need to sign a contract and how much will my up front costs be?

Yes, in the interest of better business we believe in both parties knowing what to expect from each other.  This promotes a more fluid working relationship between us.  Once we have agreed on what your needs are and have comes to terms with the cost of developing your web site, a 50% deposit will be required before we begin to work on your web page.

paws bullet What sort of maintenance will my site need and how much will it cost me?

Maintenance costs vary with your needs.  They can run anywhere from $50-$200 a quarter depending upon how much work is involved in any changes being requested.  For the most part it is up to you, once you're up and running we can feel it out and comes to terms on what your costs will be.  We believe in keeping a web site current and will keep the cost of it affordable as much as possible for you.

paws bullet How will my site be promoted on the web?

As part of my service to you we will submit your web page to the major search engines.  Bear in mind that the web crawlers take time, sometimes as long as six months for the spiders to complete their work.
